Water filter for American fridge: pay attention to the old filter!

Your old refrigerator water filter can make you sick!

If you do not remember the last time you changed your water filter, it's probably time to replace it with a new one. Most manufacturers recommend that you change your refrigerator's water filter every six months, but it really depends on how often you use it, as well as the types of substances it filters. A family for example, will have to think more often to change its water filter, than a couple without children.

Carbon water filter

Most water filtration systems use some type of carbon substance because carbon has the potential to absorb many chemicals found in water. With the recent development of solid bulk charcoal filters, water takes longer to filter out and gives more time for carbon to absorb bacteria, pesticides and other contaminants that can cause disease. If you do not change this carbon block filter according to the manufacturer's recommendations, it can affect your health and that of your family by absorbing harmful substances that will end up in your "drinking" water.

 Fiber water filter

Another type of filter found in an American fridge: fiber filters. Water filters of this type are made of well-packed rayon fibers or spun celluloses that trap rust, lead and other sediments in the water. Replacing your filter every six months will prevent sediment build-up that slows down the filter and prevents effective filtering.

How to change my water filter

Changing your water filter is very easy and all filters come with easy to follow installation instructions. Most filters can be removed by making a 1/4 turn to the left to unlock the filter and then pulling it out of the case. Remember to clean the residues or potential limestone that may be there. Then replace the filter, it simply requires to insert a new filter in the box and make a 1/4 turn to the right.

Most replacement filters are inexpensive. We also advise you to put a sticker with the replacement date right on the water filter before replacing it and you will not forget when to do it.
Replacing your water filter will ensure that your water is of good quality for you and your family for direct consumption or for cooking.
